Ride the Drive

Back for its 8th year, Ride the Drive presented by Trek is turning the downtown streets of Madison into a biker and walkers haven on Sunday, July 31. This community event opens our downtown streets to cyclists, rollerblades, and residents to enjoy a car-free few hours. There will be plenty of activities as four Activity Villages will be located along the route.

They include the Madison Parks Village on the Capitol Square, Family Drive Village at Brittingham Park, Parade Drive Village at Olin Park and Bike Avenue Village on John Nolen Drive. Some of the activities include family friendly games and sports, bike decoration, helmet decoration, face painting, food sales and a bouncy house. There will also be plenty of information available, on city parks, on Trek our sponsor, B-Cycle as well as the Madison Water Utility Water Wagon. Since the drive is in downtown Madison, feel free to stop and enjoy a snack or beverage at a local restaurant or shop at one of our many stores downtown as well.

There will of course be road closures throughout the downtown beginning at 8:30 that morning. For a complete list, please utilize the event website. The roads will reopen at 3:00 p.m. Numerous intersections will still be open to traffic during the event so please use the website to learn more about those as well. I understand this day can be frustrating for downtown motorists but by planning ahead, we can all enjoy the day.

Ride the Drive could not happen without Trek’s sponsorship and the support of many other businesses, like Saris, B-Cycle, and Mid-West Family Broadcasting. Hundreds of volunteers work long hours to make this a fun and safe event and staff at Madison Parks plan and work yearlong to assure another successful event. Thanks to everyone who makes this happen.
